Paper Overview
Every large manufacturing company has multiple IT systems from different sources in their IT architecture. While many have come a long way in consolidating and using large ERP investments and standardization efforts to drive down the numbers of disparate systems, no one is approaching a single vendor architecture any time soon. This means that every company must deal with the overlap between these systems, both functionally and from a data replication perspective. In this paper, we examine the critical importance of using a concept called Master Data Management to control the complexity of integration and the costs associated with long term operations and support of the IT architecture that includes disparate applications in the manufacturing environment.
