Paper Overview
An energy-aware manufacturing organization is a profit-aware business.  The benefits of energy awareness programs are profound - energy-aware business cultures have been shown to reduce energy costs by as much as 25%.  And the costs associated with energy awareness programs are comparatively low.  The bottom line is that by recognizing and managing energy as a controllable manufacturing cost, companies directly improve their bottom lines.

While the common perception may be that technology or equipment upgrades / replacements are the main sources of energy savings within manufacturing, that's simply not the case.  The real driver for sustainable energy savings within manufacturing has been demonstrated to be the energy awareness and education of personnel. Creating and sustaining an energy-aware organization requires a strategic, long-term commitment that challenges personnel, at all levels, to be effective and smart energy users; and it's been proven to be a smart investment that's well worth the effort.
