Paper Overview
In the Food, Beverage and Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) markets, product quality is becoming an ever more important issue as time marches on. It is widely recognized as a crucial issue that impacts both brand equity and profitability. The most successful manufacturers in these markets have begun to view managing manufacturing quality as a more holistic endeavor instead of merely a number of statistically driven monitoring points in their process. In this paper, we explore how those companies are beginning to manage quality from the source of their basic raw materials all the way to the end-consumer's table, with an eye on how to do it in such a way that promotes their brand equity and maximizes their profits. Taking this "end-to-end" approach seems rather complex at first, but it can be broken down and managed effectively if the vision, strategy, processes and systems to support this bold concept are in place.
